Independent selection · first-hand verification · no pay-to-play
Every villa, boat and experience on this site earns its place the same way — seen in person, checked against the public record, and chosen on merit alone. Here is exactly how that works.
We only publish what we would happily book for someone we care about. That means no recommendation reaches this site on reputation alone — it is scouted, inspected in person, verified against official records and reviewed by a second senior editor before it goes live. Just as importantly, no property or operator can buy its way onto the page. What follows is the full process, written plainly so you can judge our advice for yourself.
Every candidate begins as a lead — surfaced through our local industry networks, ASITA-registered contacts and years of first-hand travel across the region. Nothing progresses on a press kit. A senior member of the team visits the property or service in person and scores it against a detailed rubric covering design, service, safety and consistency. A curator then drafts the write-up, and it is not the same person who signs it off.
Claims are only as good as the paperwork behind them. We cross-verify licences, credentials and safety records against official sources — Indonesia’s tourism-business certification bodies, the maritime authority that licenses boat operators, the national statistics bureau and the Ministry of Tourism. If a claim cannot be substantiated, it does not appear. Before anything publishes, at least one additional senior editor reviews the draft for accuracy and tone.
No listing is ever for sale. We accept no payment for coverage, ranking or a favourable review, and money never moves a recommendation up or down the page. Our income comes from transparent concierge fees and pre-negotiated industry commissions that are the same whether we suggest one villa or another — so the incentive is always to recommend the right one. Selection is merit-based, full stop.
Nothing is listed until a senior team member has seen it in person and scored it.
Placements cannot be bought. Selection is merit-based, and commissions never change ranking.
Listings are reviewed quarterly, partners re-vetted annually, and updated at once on any material change.
Every guide is written by specialists who travel the region themselves — never anonymous freelancers.
How we keep recommendations accurate, current and genuinely independent.
Each recommendation is inspected in person by a senior team member, scored against a detailed rubric, and cross-checked against official records. A second senior editor then reviews the write-up before it publishes, so no single person’s opinion goes live unchecked.
We review partner listings and core content every quarter and formally re-vet every partner once a year. If we receive credible information that something has changed, we review it immediately and correct the page promptly and transparently.
We fix it as soon as we can and update the listing openly. If a property or operator no longer meets our standard, it is removed — regardless of how long it has been featured.
No. We take no paid placements and accept no payment in exchange for a positive review or a higher ranking. A listing is earned through first-hand verification and merit, never money.
Through transparent concierge fees and pre-negotiated industry commissions. Those commissions are arranged in advance and do not vary by recommendation, so they never influence which villa, boat or experience we suggest.
Editorial oversight sits with our founder and lead travel designer, who signs off on the review process and is accountable for the accuracy of what we publish.
