What to pack for a luxury Bali vacation

Resortwear · temple-ready cover · light layers for the tropics

A tight, considered edit for warm days and cool evenings — breathable resortwear, respectful temple cover, and the few essentials that make Bali feel effortless. Pack light; we handle the rest on the ground.

The Idea

Fewer pieces, better chosen

Bali rewards a light, elegant suitcase. Days sit between 26 and 30°C with humidity that often climbs past 80 percent, so natural fabrics and easy silhouettes beat anything heavy. The trick is versatility — pieces that move from a villa breakfast to a temple visit to a clifftop dinner without a second thought. Below is how we help guests pack for the island, from resortwear to the small things travellers forget.

Resortwear & the beach
01

Resortwear & the beach

Lean on breathable, high-quality fabrics — linen, cotton, modal and lightweight silk keep you cool through the day. Bring two or three swimsuits and easy cover-ups — a kaftan, a maxi dress, wide-leg trousers — that carry you from villa pool to beach club without changing. Add a wide-brimmed hat, good sunglasses, and flat sandals or espadrilles for sand and stone. For a Mount Batur sunrise or a jungle hike, pack trail shoes and one warm layer; the summit is cool before dawn.

Temples, evenings & tech
02

Temples, evenings & tech

Temples ask for modesty: shoulders and knees covered, with a sarong and a light scarf or pashmina you can slip on at the gate (sarongs also rent on site for around IDR 20,000–50,000). Evenings call for a step up — a cocktail dress, a jumpsuit, tailored separates and a pair of elegant loafers for clifftop dining. For essentials: a universal adapter for Type C and F sockets at 230V, a power bank, reef-safe SPF 50+, insect repellent with DEET or picaridin, and a light cardigan or cashmere shawl for cool cars, villas and restaurants. In the wet season (October to April) a compact umbrella and quick-drying pieces are all you need.

Packing questions

What travellers ask us before they zip the suitcase.

What fabrics work best in Bali’s climate?

Natural, breathable fabrics — linen, cotton, modal and lightweight silk — are ideal for days between 26 and 30°C where humidity often passes 80 percent. Loose, easy silhouettes will keep you far more comfortable than anything heavy or synthetic.

How should I dress for temple visits?

Temples require covered shoulders and knees. Pack a sarong and a light scarf or pashmina you can slip on at the entrance; most temples also rent sarongs on site for around IDR 20,000–50,000 if you would rather travel light.
